Netflix and the content creators tied the 4k drm to intel sgx, proprietary extensions intel has no intention of sharing with amd, so there's nothing amd and nvidia can do despite having drm compliance built into the video cards.. The only downside i can see, is if ryzen is not playready 3.0 compatible, so i wouldn't be able to play netflix in 4k on my 32" 4k monitor. i plan to get a high end video card, like the nvidia 1070 or 1080, but that won't decode playready 3.0.. If you have recently installed windows 10 on a new system build and have found you cannot play 4k netflix or 4k in windows movies or tv then you might need to install the hevc video extensions from microsoft in the microsoft store. there are two versions: one paid for $.99 and one free. amd ryzen 2700x.
I know it was said in the past that only kaby lake and newer supported 4k netflix because of drm but idk if amd added the same drm features to ryzen to allow for 4k netflix. my last system had an i7 6700 and a nvidia 1070 in it and played 4k hdr in the netflix app and also in windows movies and tv.. Take your translator and check out hardware info if you are running amd hardware, the latest 18.4.1 drivers and are a fan of netflix. you can now get all that 4k goodness on your pc, if you have 4k display of course. there are a couple of hoops to jump through however.. Hi ray_m. what you want to say is because of lack of hardware drm implement in old school cpu, it is impossible for netflix to work at 4k on traditional pc, even it has a gpu like polaris that can handle it..
